Rec Tec Smoker

I started down the journey of meat smoking back in January 2013 when I received my first smoker. A 30″ Masterbuilt Electric Smoker. It served me well over there years and I produced some pretty good food. I took it to the limits and wanted more. I wanted more space mainly but I had a hunch that my food could get better.

I spent months researching smokers. Reading blogs from other people as well as checking out a few different forums. I had it narrowed down to a few different products and eventually settled on a REC TEC Wood Pellet Grill (RT-680). I bought the front folding shelf so I could have extra space to set things down as well as the inside 2nd smoker shelf.

It’s been 3 months now since I received my new Rec Tec and I am very happy with my purchase. I love being able to put a brisket in before I go to bed. I don’t have to get up to tend to it and instead I can get a full nights sleep.

When smoking at lower temperatures, the Rec Tec has an extreme smoke setting. To me, this isn’t really that extreme but the amount of smoke I would expect when cooking at a low temp.

The only thing I don’t like is not getting much smoke on my food when I’m cooking at high temps. I do like being able to crank it up into the upper 400’s but there just isn’t a lot of smoke. To overcome this, I purchased an A-MazeN Tube Smoker. This solves the problem and allows for a nice amount of smoke during my entire cook.

All in all, I’d recommend this smoker and wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again. The price is great and it puts out some amazing food.
