The bacon blanket (bacon weave)

There are a bunch of posts and images out there of what is called the bacon explosion, pork fatty or bacon bomb and they look soooo good. They are basically a bacon weave with sausage and then smoked for a while. As good as it sounds, I figured I should try to tame it down a little. I eat a lot of fat and protein in my diet but that just seems like a little too much for me.

MyFitnessPal – Macro Percentages Script

A few months ago I started tracking my calories and exercise on a website called MyFitnessPal (dhansen999). It is a great tool in the weight loss journey and has helped me a lot as I work towards my weight loss goals. There was something missing from this though. It is great for tracking calories and setting up calorie goals as well as macro nutrient goals. On the diary page for the day, it will list your calorie goals and nutrient goals. But in the real world, you don’t always eat the exact amount of calories. So, if I was 150 calories above or below my goal, I wasn’t totally sure how much carbs/fat/protein that I should eat because it shows me the number based on the calorie goal, not based on how much I have consumed.

To solve this, I wrote a user script for Google Chrome. What this script does is that it will inject values into the page that show me the percentages I have consumed. Sure, I could do some math and figure it out but why do that when I can write a script to do it for me?

Anyway, figured I would share this for anyone else that wanted to install it and use it. To install, you need to first make sure you are using Google Chrome for your web browser. If you are, head on over to their web store to download the extension. After it is installed, head over to myfitnesspal.com and check out your dairy.

Here is an example of what your page will look like after installing the script:

MyFitnessPal Percentages

The script is setup to use the above column positions and that is what it will default to every time you open the page. The number in parenthesis represents that percentage based on the total calories for that day or that meal.

WTF? Really? Yes, this is real. Bacon pumpkin pie is legit! I’m not obsessed with bacon, really!!

So, I didn’t get too crazy with this and it was rather simple. In the future, I might go for a little more of an elaborate pie. This time around though, I was looking to just get the concept down and see how it works. I ended up making 2 medium sized pies and 3 mini pies out of this batch …

bacon kobe burgerI was watching the Food Network and they showed this restaurant called Slater’s 50/50. This place was founded with the idea of creating a burger patty out of 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. As I was watching, it was hard not to drool. Why hadn’t I thought of this before? Why did this place have to be so far way?

Since I knew I wasn’t going to make it down to Southern Cal anytime soon, I decided I had to try this burger for myself. But where would I get ground bacon? I called around and couldn’t find it anywhere. After a long search I finally found a place in town that I could buy it. Long’s Meat Market said they could sell me some as long as they had a 24 hour notice!

So, I invited my friend Andrew over (another bacon lover like me) and we bought 1lb of ground bacon along with 1lb of kobe beef (American Kobe). We proceeded to mix the two meats together and add in some jalepeno and garlic for good measure.

After we had it all mixed up, we decided to make little sliders out of these burgers and put them on some hawaiian sweet rolls. These were simply amazing! This was by far one of the best burgers that I have ever had. I can’t wait to try it again.

Peanut Butter Bacon Rollups

What are Peanut Butter Bacon Rolls you may ask? Well, in a word they are glorious! I enjoy combining different types of foods and trying to come up with something that is unique and tastes great. The orgin of this creation came at a high school youth camp in July of 2010. I don’t remember exactly how it started but I ended up putting some peanut butter on my bacon. Then the next strip I put peanut butter on, added some Sriracha to it (which my good friend Josh brought to camp), and drug it through my syrup …
